House Of Reps Stops Sale Of Birth Certificate

Wednesday Plenary saw the House of Representatives condemned the sale of birth certificates in Nigeria and the process of payment for birth registration.

The House during plenary said that payment of money to the National Population Commission (NPC) to obtain birth certificates for newborn babies is illegal and should stop.

This came as a result of a motion brought to the attention of the House by one of the lawmakers, Nkiru Onyejeocha (Abia, APC).

The lawmaker told the House that the sale of birth certificates has caused an increased number of unregistered Nigerian children due to the amount of #4500 charged for it.
