INSURGENCE: No Fewer Than 14 Persons Killed In Ungwan Paa-Gwandara, Kaduna

No fewer than 14 people have been reportedly killed with 17 others injured after gunmen attacked Ungwan Paa-Gwandara village in Godogodo Chiefdom of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

This Channels TV can confirm through Mr Peter Averik, the Chairman of the Local Government. The LGA Chairman told Channels Television that the gunmen invaded the community on Sunday evening and opened fire on residents who were attending a wedding ceremony.

Furthermore, other eyewitnesses that confirmed the incident said nine persons died on the spot, while five died today at the Kafanchan General Hospital, where those who sustained injuries are still receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, a combined team of security operatives have been deployed to the affected community and environs to maintain law and order.

Barricaded Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Opened

The barricaded Sagamu end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been opened for commuters. The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mr Adedamola Kuti told journalists during the opening on Tuesday that the barricaded section was opened to ease traffic during the festive period. He said, "the gridlock experienced on the road necessitated the removal of the barricades." He also noted that work will resume on the road as quickly as possible in January so the contractors could maximise the window offered by the dry season.
